I am Batman...

Tired of seeing the invocation section sitting empty:

I am Batman...

Gonna be doing this soon.

Anyone else ever invoke fictional characters?

Say what you want about me, but I don’t like the idea of invoking fictional characters. I’m not saying it’s dumb, but it’s just not for me. I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because I don’t want to feel “silly”. Then again, I am a chaos magician.

I have created and then invoked characters. I think that is more along the lines of creating a servitor, with a personality, and then invoking them. When I was much younger I would do it for things like public speaking and such, but also for protection, and or insight/divination.

And find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
And is traveled by dark feet and dark wings

I considered invoking Buffy the vampire slayer once as part of a protection ritual, but it just didn't feel right to me, and if it doesn't feel right it wont work right imo.

One argument is that all gods were once just someone putting a face on a universal principle and so all gods are really fictional characters, and therefore Ra is no different than Superman.

The counter argument, that really turned me away from the practice, is that historical gods were created to be sacred, they have a back story that was meant to symbolise some part of the working of the universe and the microcosm of the human psyche whereas modern heroes are usually created for the sole purpose of entertainment.

But that is like if you wanted to replace a god with a superhero, which is what I was contemplating for a while.

I think its perfectly reasonable to invoke Batman to empower yourself though.

I think it would be very useful to invoke Batman when dealing with situations that involve deductive reasoning especially.

If it works then it works. :)

Magic is a method of talking to the universe in words that it cannot ignore.
The two are rarely compatible.”

I'm not even close to evoking anything, hell I can barely achieve gnosis for more than a few seconds. But I am hung up on Thoth, I'm also mad about the Hopi Grandmother Spider. I think being fascinated by them gives them some power and I'm all too happy to give it. I've noticed a shit ton more spiders and I go out of my way to be kind to them. I also take pleasure now in reading slowly not just reading to get finished while a movie plays in my mind. So much literature and lore supports these two that I can build them and talk to them with an idea of how they would respond. I'm hoping they bang and create a universe in my mind.
