Non-Evoking Evocation

Post by kingnine » Thu Jul 12, 2018 12:50 am

I'm wondering how much certain practices work off the principles of evocation without intentionally being an evocation. Do you think things like religious visions, Marian apparitions, UFO encounters, etc. are a form of evocation?

I wonder because I see a lot of occultists eventually getting interested in these adjacent fringe things. It seems like they share a mechanism in common with occultism, only it happens unintentionally rather than through willed action. Is contact with the beyond a general human experience that gets explained in many different ways?

Maybe it's more like "the other" poking into our reality than us unintentionally evoking them.

I would agreed that it is General experience that is interpreted in different ways such as interpretations of sleep paralysis being interpreted as demons by some, aliens by others and brain misfiring by science.
“Science is a way of talking about the universe in words that bind it to a common reality.
Magic is a method of talking to the universe in words that it cannot ignore.
The two are rarely compatible.”
